Driver Shortage
I don’t think it’s a secret in the HGV industry that there is a driver shortage and has been for quite some time, in fact throughout the last few years the situation is actually getting worse. With many drivers over the age of 50 + retiring from the industry and new people not coming on board, they are actually calling it a mini crisis. As we approach the Christmas rush (I know I know I’m as shocked as you, it’s coming around so quick) there are not enough drivers to deliver food to supermarkets, online deliveries, people & businesses daily post, bakeries etc. etc.
Two years ago there were 30,000 vacancies in the HGV industry, now there are 45,000 vacancies. They are predicting next year there will be 65,000 and if this mini crisis goes on in the year 2020 they will be expecting a shortage of 100,000. Its unmanageable at the moment imagine in a few years’ time.
Now that’s the negative but the MAJOR plus is if you are young and just out of college or in a job you don’t like or if you have been working half your life and want an easier work life or just a change top earn better money then the HGV industry is crying out for drivers of all ages .

Now you will need to obtain an HGV license if you haven’t already if you passed your driving test after 1997 but if you’re lucky enough to be older (like me) and have grandfather rights on your license and passed your driving test before 1997 then you can walk into the industry straight away using your 7.5 tone entitlement you have just buy doing CPC training with one of our 45 locations across the UK. But obviously younger drivers once they have their HGV license can come to us and we can then help them with CPC training as well. Simples
